You must order an EPC for potential buyers and tenants before you market your property to sell or rent.

Energy Performance Certificates Questions and answers

What is an Energy Performance Certificate?

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) shows the energy efficiency rating of a domestic or commercial property. It's purpose is to show how energy efficient a property is, rating it from A-G. A being very efficient and G being inefficient. They will be carried out by accredited Domestic or Non Domestic Energy Assessors (DEA). These assessors are trained on energy efficiency savings. They also do the survey to produce the EPC report.

Q. Do I need an EPC?
A. If you live in England or Wales the simple answer is yes! As of the 21st May 2010 any property that is marketed for sale or put up for rent will need one.

Q. Do I need an EPC before I put my home up for sale?
A. You don't need to have an EPC in place to market your property providing you have booked and paid for a Domestic Energy Assessor to do your EPC. If you market your property without either and EPC or a booked appointment you would be liable for a fine.

Q. How do I order an EPC?
A. If you live in Bournemouth or surrounding towns then give us a ring and we will arrange for an assessor to visit. If you live further away then go to the DEA register to find an assessor in your area.

Q. How long does it take before I receive my EPC?
A. You will normally receive your EPC within 48 hours of visit. (Emailed or download copies) Royal mail copies might take longer.

Q. How do I know the DEA is accredited
A. All of our DEA's are fully accredited and CRB checked for peace of mind. They also have an identification card showing the body they are accredited with.
